The College of Journalists of Tortosa (Col·legi de Periodistes de Tortosa) hosted an informative breakfast on 3rd of February to present the current status of the GIRA project. It consists of an energy storage infrastructure with reversible pumping technology planned between Terra Alta and Ribera d'Ebre. During the meeting, the project leadership presented the main technical and administrative advances achieved to date, as well as the opportunities that the initiative can generate for the economic development of the territory and its contribution to the energy transition.

The project includes the construction of a reversible pumped hydroelectric plant capable of storing renewable energy through a closed water circuit between two ponds located at different altitudes. This technology makes it possible to take advantage of surplus renewable production to store energy and return it to the grid when necessary, thus contributing to strengthening the stability and security of the electricity system.

In addition to its energy function, the project aims to become a driver of economic activity for Terres de l'Ebre. The presentation highlighted the infrastructure’s potential to attract new industrial investments through the availability of renewable, reliable and competitive energy. Moreover, it also emphasized the project’s potential to generate employment during its different phases.

The informative breakfast was also the starting point of a process of dialogue and engagement with the territory. The project promoters announced new information sessions in the municipalities linked to the project. Such sessions will be organized with the aim of sharing updated information, solving problems and collecting the concerns of citizens, entities and the different agents of the territory.
