Responsible water integration with the environment

GIRA is a pure pumped-storage hydropower plant which operates through the movement of water in a closed-loop system between two reservoirs located outside the riverbed, with minimal water consumption:

Following the initial filling of the lower reservoir with water sourced from surplus flows of the Ebro River, the system operates in a closed circuit and only requires occasional water replenishment to compensate for evaporation losses.

Essential water uses for drinking water supply, agriculture, and ecological flow requirements will always take priority over any water use associated with GIRA.

The GIRA Project is fully committed to preserving the biodiversity of the region.

We are carrying out specific studies o hydrology, hydrogeology, biodiversity, landscape, noise, and agricultural compatibility, with the aim of anticipating, minimising, and, where necessary, mitigating environmental impacts.
