The Catalan News Agency (ACN) has reported on the start of environmental studies carried out within the framework of the GIRA project, the reversible hydroelectric power plant for energy storage which aims to be built in the territories of Ascó, La Fatarella, Flix and Riba-roja d'Ebre. The aim of these efforts is to analyse the environmental characteristics of the environment where the plant is expected to be built and provide information to adjust the final design of the infrastructure and minimise its impact.

The article highlights that the studies, commissioned to the specialized company Biodiversity Node, will initially focus on the birdlife and bats present in the studied area. The work will be carried out for a year in an area of more than 30,000 hectares and will allow the identification of potential adaptation measures for the project, including modifications of certain transportation routes where the results of the study recommend it.
